Well, I’ve just about recovered now but last weekend I took a stand with other local makers and artists at an event here in Lauzerte to celebrate and promote visual arts and crafts – le Salon des Metiers des Arts. I’ve lost track of the number of mini-demonstrations I did in french and english to groups old and young. And I only sold a few cards BUT it was a good opportunity to make contacts, and to be seen in a very french context here in my own village. Brownie points, brownie points…..
It was quite fun as well to be surrounded by fellow “artisans” and to realise that Lauzerte was the only village in the Tarn et Garonne to celebrate a national event in this way. Hence the visitor numbers I suspect. There were also some mad and/or surreal moments…. the exhibitor opposite me (Coco) made items with “bois flotté”, great confections of dried and twisted wood in enormous piles wrapped around mirrors and picture frames. Then a visitor arrived with a “coiffure” in exactly the same style. I could barely contain myself!! There was also some scoffing of chocolate mousse and cava after hours………. a tad like a scene from St Trinian’s.
Anyway, here are a couple of shots of me in action at the Salon des Metiers d’art last weekend. Check out my new press in the background. The blue thing fixed to the table! Photos by Raphaele Rohn.
